Massive point jumps on Memrise

User mkam453 has obtained 20 million points on the Russian course Top 10,000 Words Part 2
in the past month. This is very unlikely without using a bot, I am certain this user is cheating. I have noticed this happening on multiple courses lately.

Does the beta version have some sort of glitch that allows massive exploitation of the website? At the end of the day it’s only fake points that don’t mean anything, but the competitive aspect of the website is a really fun thing that encourages me to do better. When users do this they completely destroy something the website creators have worked so hard to foster. Very discouraging. Hope it can be looked into.

Hi @11142,

We will investigate and take appropriate actions if necessary. Unfortunately we won’t be able to disclose the outcome of our decision.

Best wishes,
Memrise team.

I disagree with you saying to avoid the mobile app. It’s great if your out somewhere or just want to do it in the living room while the TV is on in the background. I have over 22 million points and actual prefer the mobile app quite a bit more than the website. They made a lot of improvements to the mobile app since it came out and it’s quite usable and responsive.

I didn’t say to avoid the mobile app…

At this point this user is getting 1-2 million points a day. They just turn on their bot long enough to be number one on the list every day and turn it off when the lead gets too obvious.

Seriously, the cheating on this site is overwhelming. Should just disable the leaderboards at this point, it’s discouraging new users.

Really pathetic that people feel the need to cheat for fake internet points. I wouldn’t be surprised if the cheating came from competitors trying to sabotage your customer base. It is a SERIOUS issue and urgently needs to be addressed.
