Hi, i’m Isabel! Izzi for short!
Plainly said- I love Memrise. I always hated learning languages, took me months to learn a few words. And then my younger brother was acing through heaps of different languages, and I felt embarresed. My Mum really wanted me to learn Portuguese and Spanish, because we were supposed to go on holiday to Portugal and Chile within the next few months, and also, because she wanted us to honour our heritage. But until I found Memrise, I always sucked at it! :joy: But Duolingo is awesome too!

Hey everyone, Ive just started learning danish. I speak chinese, tiny bit of french. Im a family that speaks both English and Chinese but in 7th grade I learned French not learned French but was forced to do 100s of grammar, conjugation, reading comprehension, listening, vocabulary exercises. As you might tell I was sick of them so after getting a c in my final I decided I was gonna use duolingo i used it for a few months until I switched schools and had to learn Spanish so I made a jumped into a new curse and learned Spanish for 14 days but then I heard that I didn’t needed to learn Spanish and continued my French course but after a year of not practicing French I decided I was gonna challenge my self to learn a language in a year and I chose danish. I had danish ancestry so I chose it. I started with YouTube, learned some few phrases but didn’t work but then I discovered memrise and it was pretty amazing for what it offers for free I like duolingo but disliked the constant repetitiveness of doing each lesson and how this owl is always reminding you to do your daily practice. So yeah that’s my story sorry if it’s insanely long I like to write a lot. Mange tak. Merci beacoup. 谢谢。Thank you.

Hi @bainielsent63, here are some ideas for learning French. (And switch between resources to avoid boredom).

Learn the first 2000 words (includes audio) from:
*5000 Most Common French Words - by ciccero - Memrise

Work through the five Pimsleur comprehensive audio French courses (75 hrs total). These are expensive, but you may be able to borrow the courses from a public library.
*Pimsleur French Level 1 CD: Learn to Speak and Understand French with Pimsleur Language Programs (1) (Comprehensive): Pimsleur: 9780743518345: Amazon.com: Books … etc.

Buy an introductory book (with audio), for example:
*GCSE French AQA Complete Revision & Practice (with Online Edition & Audio) (CGP GCSE French 9-1 Revision): Amazon.co.uk: CGP Books, CGP Books: 9781782945390: Books

Hey hey! My name’s PJ, and I’ve been on Memrise since I was 14(?) … maybe 15 … I’ve been here for a while, but finally decided to unfold myself from my little introverted corner and meet new language lovers like myself.

I’m learning Russian and French, and hope to learn Chinese, Italian, Hungarian, Polish and Hebrew someday as well. And Icelandic, Romanian, Ukrainian, Futhark … Actually, I just want to learn as many languages as possible lol.

I love music (I play the cello … not terribly well, though), art, and reading as well. And also wasting my time watching useless vine compilations on YouTube.

Nice to be here! I’m excited to get to know everyone!

Welcome, nice to meet you and seeing you around! That’s an amazing project to be a polyglot musician! I had the same idea when I was younger but life and destiny are boxes full of surprises. However, when I was young we didn’t have such a fantastic thing like Memrise :grinning:
I’m learning Cornish and a bit of nature here.

Nice to meet you too! Thanks so much, too! It’ll be a challenge to be a polygot musician, but a fun one at that.
That’s so cool, Cornish seems like a really difficult language (for me at least lol). What is it about Cornish that’s made you want to learn it? If you don’t mind me asking, of course

Hi Peej! Haha I wrote this reply two times and had to delete it: it was always too long. It means a lot to me. Well basically I like the Cornish language and everything Cornish because it’s exciting like a neverending mystery novel. I also love Celtic music.

Hahaha, it’s no problem at all!! I tend to write really, really long messages and replies myself. I’ve tried to get better, but it can be hard to keep things shorter.
That’s so cool!! Anything Celtic fascinates me. I have Scottish and Irish heritage, so I’ve thought that Cornish, Irish or Gaelic would be easier for me. It really isn’t :joy:
What’re some of your favourite Celtic songs???
(I apologize, too - I tend to ask so many questions.)

It could be a nice idea to open a thread for the Celtic culture. I find it hard to choose, the more purely traditional the more I like it. I listen and enjoy the big ones and even more the less known ones.

Hello, Emily, and pleased to meet you! I am Manoel and, yes, I do also have a Duolingo acount as Manandez. I am interested, for now, in constructed languages and began learning Interlingua in Memrise together with a course presented by Union Mundial pro Interlingua. So I can mix the grammar content with the words I learn here.

I hope this message finds you safe and sound. Take good care! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi! I’m Johnas from Hong Kong. I studied linguistics at university (just graduated ) and have been using Memrise to learn various languages for 6 years (recently mainly French and Japanese). But I wasn’t active on this forum, until I came to protest against Memrise taking down mems two weeks ago (https://community.memrise.com/t/rollout-of-the-new-dashboard-and-learning-sessions-experiences-to-all-our-customers/69305/1). This has been settled so far, but I think I’ll remain active here to socialize with my fellow Memrisers :slightly_smiling_face:.

BTW I operate a Facebook group dedicated to Memrise! Please join us :relaxed:.

Hi!
I am learning Twi, Dangme and French and created some courses in Twi and Dangme based on what little I have come by. I hope to be updating these courses soon. Would really like to get friends who are also learning these languages.
